The African Outlet opened its door first in 1989, on Divisadero Street, San Francisco, in a space accommodating three people maximum – truly, an African stall. In 1984, a storefront became available in Hayes Valley, Octavia Street; we moved and settled for nearly 20 years. After emerging from a brief residence in storage, we opened our doors in Bayview, our current home – at 4942 Third Street, at Quesada. From conception, The African Outlet has, and always will be, synonymous with the qualities of authentic, traditional, and unique, and African items of so many categories – masks, sculpture, fetish, items for ceremony, fashion, fabrics, hanging art, accessories, adornments, oils, and incense. We invite you to the ambiance of Africa, in all of its many layers, colors, and expressions.
